Marriage Encounter is a weekend free of the everyday distractions and tensions designed to give married couples the opportunity to examine and enrich their lives together. It is a time to share their feelings, their hopes, disappointments, joys and frustrations, and to do so openly and honestly in a face-to-face, heart-to-heart encounter. It is oriented strictly to each individual couple. You concentrate on your spouse to such an extent that you are hardly aware of the other couples present. Presentations are given to the group as a whole by three couples and a priest. This offers to couples a greater awareness of their strengths and power as a couple and helps to deepen their relationship. After each presentation, the husband and wife have time in the privacy of their room for their own personal discussion. There is no group discussion. It is a distinctly Catholic experience, although many marriages of other denominations share this experience.
