The north wall of the church nave is a shimmering vision of power and light emanating from on high. Near the top is a stained-glass window revealing a lamb standing on a book, which is radiating toward the earth at the bottom of the window. This represents Christ, the Lamb of God, who came as God’s presence on earth and is known by us through the book, or bible. Below the window is Christ’s crucifixion on the cross, which reminds us, through Christ’s suffering, of God’s love for us.
Christ loved little children and was at ease with them. Even more, he valued their innocence, urging adults to retain some of the child-like character that endears them to us. “Let the little children come to me, and forbid them not, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” This mosaic shows the warmth and comfort that Jesus exhibited with the little ones.
This mosaic is a scene of a procession at the site of the miracle at Lourdes where Mary appeared to Bernadette. This scene shows one of the great devotions of Lourdes, the blessing of the sick with the Blessed Sacrament. Many of the miracles attributed to Lourdes occurred during these blessings. The window is the image of Our Lady of Lourdes. (See Stained Glass)
