The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is on Friday, August 15th. This is a Holy Day of obligation. To fulfill your obligation the Mass schedule will be as follows:
Thursday, August 14th: 6:00pm (Vigil Mass)
Friday, August 15th: 8:00am and 6:00pm
The Feast of the Assumption celebrates the happy departure of Mary from this life by her assumption bodily into heaven. Along with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (December 8th), the Assumption is a principal feast of the Blessed Virgin and a Holy Day.
This is one of the most important feasts of the Church year. The Feast of the Assumption is a sign to us that someday, through God’s grace and efforts, we too may join the Blessed Mother in giving glory to God. We seek to imitate her self-sacrificing love, her indestructible faith and her perfect obedience. Furthermore, the Church, in her love and wisdom for her children, gives us these HOLY DAYS, whether they be obligatory or not, so that we may have the gift of setting aside the routines and challenges of daily life in order to encounter once more God’s deep and abiding love for us. Therefore, we invite you to celebrate the Great Feast of Mary’s Assumption into Heaven on August 15th.
