This day celebrates the mystery of Mary, who, by the grace of God, was free from the corruption of sin from the moment of her conception. It was proclaimed a dogma of the Catholic Church in 1854 by Pope Pius IX. The Immaculate Conception is the patronal feast for the United States.
The church gives us these “Holy days” throughout the year as gifts for our souls. These Holy Days offer us an opportunity to set aside the things of this world and to step away for awhile and be refreshed by the Lord. We invite all of you to take advantage of this “Holy Day” of Obligation/opportunity.
